I could buy a real weather station for my home. The only problem is that without really knowing what I wanted, I just couldn’t stomach the $400 to $1000 I would need for the weather station. I know, I know.  You’re asking why would I spend that kind of money when you can go to the local hardware store and buy one for less than a $100?  Well, I wanted not just any weather station, but a very nice weather station.  A weather station that not only  could measure temperature, barometric pressure, wind speed, etc…but also accurate, wireless, able to connect to the computer, and has the ability to be “customized” additional features down the road.

In the end, I chose Davis Instruments’ Wireless Vantage Pro2 Weather Station. After a couple years of researching as well as getting used the sticker stock…I finally took the plunge and bought the darn thing. I couldn’t be happier! The weather station lists for $595, but can be found cheaper at Amazon.

I like my Keurig Coffee Maker

01.29.07

As a gift, the wife bought me Keurig’s Gourmet Single-Cup Home Brewing System. The Special Edition B60 to be more precise. Why did she buy it for me? Well she knew full well I would never even consider buying a coffee maker over $100 on my own. Why would I? My Mr. Coffee Maker for $25 has served me well. Only rich fools would buy themselves such an expensive coffee maker, right?

Well, now that this handsome coffee maker sits in my kitchen…I’ll never go back to my old coffee maker. The machine is always ready to brew me a cup of coffee within one minute since it constantly keeps a couple cups of water steaming hot. All you do is slip in one of these K-Cups filled with coffee (basically coffee grains in a disposable plastic cup), place your cup next to the brewing system, hit the button, and your done. The one touch brewing system allows for three cup sizes, tea cup, coffee cup, and travel mug. The coffee maker doesn’t quite fill up my travel mug, but given the variety of travel mug sizes I can see why it’s not going to fill every single travel mug out there perfectly.

The Keurig Special Edition B60

My Keurig included a variety of 18 K-Cups. The coffee was all good, but surprisingly I found that I also liked the K-Cups filled with tea (would that be called a T-Cup?). For the first time in my life, I’m a tea lover. However, I found that it was just as easy to use a regular tea bags to brew my tea with the Keurig than one of the K-Cups. The B60 has the ability to just fill your cup with hot water instantly into a cup allowing for an easy cup of tea or hot chocolate in seconds. I’ve heard some complaints that the coffee coming out of the K-Cups is a little weak. I suppose this is all a matter of taste, but since I don’t drink the darkest coffee out there…it’s perfect for my taste buds.

My Keurig B60 also includes a back-lit LCD panel, programmable on/off, brew temperature control (the default is a little too hot for my wife), digital clock, 48 oz. water reservoir, and as I mentioned before, 18 K-Cup Variety pack. If you order one, consider ordering the Keurig B60 through our associated Amazon store.

Like that Idea has been an online associate for Amazon.com for some time. When Bryan, Karen, or their son like a particular product and recommend it for your family…we talk about it here. Because we like the product so much, we often provide a link to it which gives you an easy option to buy a similar product that we have liked so much. Now it’s time for something slightly different!

We are starting something new as associates with Amazon…it’s called aStore. Basically, aStore allows us to have a store at Amazon for those visiting our Website. From Amazon you get the same service and support for your purchases as you always have. At the same time, we can now offer a store that is Amazon plus our own Like that Idea style added to the mix.

Check out our new Like that Idea store at Amazon. We hope it is an idea that you’ll like!

I can’t say we truly like this idea since during the pre-cellphone days we were apprehensive about seeing phone jacks in the family bathroom. However, this still deserves some attention for at least a few laughs. iPod users rejoice…you can truly take your iPods wherever you go! Karen and our boy are probably more open to this product than I am.

At this time, no word on the price. So would you put an iPod toilet paper holder in your bathroom? Feel free to comment here at Like that Idea.

Diego and his Rescue Pack

05.21.06

I’ve talked previously about how much my son loves Dora the Explorer.? He’s now just over 2 1/2 and, although he still watches Dora regularly, Diego definitely takes precedence over Dora.? It must be the ‘boy’ thing and the idea of adventure, all while learning about different animals.? Diego is now the first TV show of choice when we have a morning at home.? I’ve found that I enjoy watching it as well and learn some things that I didn’t know.? I just wish they had more Diego shows available - it seems like the ones on Noggin are somewhat limited so have bought what DVDs are available.? Of course, my son doesn’t ever care if they are repeats!? It’s a winner with him!

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

05.18.06

My son and I started reading this book regularly about 4 months ago.? He loves the rhythm and rhyme and at the end of the book, I turn out the flap and we sing the alphabet song while I point out the letters.? We went through a phase of about 6 weeks that we read this book every night ? now it?s at least 3 times a week and he is identifying the letters and knows most of the words.? This is certainly one of the more fun books for a toddler and a great learning tool as well!? There’s also a ‘read with me’ DVD that I’m considering.? Highly recommended!!!?

From the publisher:? A told B, and B told C, “I’ll meet you at the top of the coconut tree.” Countless children and their parents can joyfully recite the familiar words of this beloved alphabet chant. The lively rhymes and cheerful pictures have made Chicka Chicka Boom Boom a modern-day classic. This Read With Me DVD software is filled with learning exercises and games based on the charming story of upper case “adults” rescuing lower case “children.” Helps Teach: Story Comprehension, Main Ideas, Story Settings & Events, Character Traits, Cause & Effect, Compare & Contrast, Vocabulary, Word Definitions, Descriptive Words, Context of Words Within a Story, Phonics Skills, Words that Relate Concepts, And more.

Learning Drum by LeapFrog

05.13.06

I was in Toys-R-Us the other day and saw a woman with about a 5 month old looking at this drum.? I had forgotten what a long-lived toy this is!? I was given one as a gift when my son was quite young.? We began playing with it before he was 6 months old.? Besides having?fun, it starts teaching?as infant?the principle of cause and effect.? As he got older, it has become more and more of a learning tool while he is having a blast with his choice of playing music, imitating the drum beats that they play, numbers?or letters (there are four different settings the child can set it on).? He is now just over 2 ? and still plays with it quite frequently, sometimes singing along as well!? This toy is a definite for any mom!
