Upgrade to Wordpress 2.0.5

11.12.06

Sad to say, I just upgraded to Wordpress 2.0.5…almost two weeks after it was released. I usually like to stay on top of any upgrades due to fixes for any security exploits. This new version of Wordpress mainly contains bugfixes, security fixes, and some very minor enhancements. According to the original announcement at Wordpress.org, the fixes center around feeds, custom fields, and internationalization. Links to download Wordpress 2.0.5 are available at the “official” Wordpress 2 download page.

Also, some Wordpress users after upgrading to version 2.0.5 have experienced Server 500 errors. If you are one of these unfortunate users, check out Mark Jaquith’s blog for a plug-in that should fix this known problem.

Like that right to vote

11.08.06

The feeling right after I get done voting in an election never fails to reach me. No matter how I vote or whether my votes are counted with the majority; a wave of pride and happiness always hits me after I leave the polling place. There is nothing better than participating in a democracy by exercising my right to vote as a citizen of the United States.

Once the votes are counted, even over the most divisive issues in American politics, this Government as a whole accepts the will of the People. It’s such an amazing democratic process that one only hopes to see the country around another 230 years.

God Bless America. God bless the Democrats. God bless the Republicans. God bless the Independents.

First eBay purchase

11.03.06

After 20 years working with computers and 10 years putting Web pages on the Internet, I finally got around to making my first eBay purchase. The wife, Karen, of course has made plenty of eBay purchases in the past and as with many activities a pro at it. My first purchase on eBay helped end a five year search for a 1948 football card of Ray Evans while he was quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ray Evans not only was an NFL quarterback, but he also the University of Kansas’ first All-American in both football and basketball.

1948 Leaf Football #72 Ray Evans

Why did I want this football card of Ray Evans? Well besides the fact that he was a great athlete he was also my great Uncle. For the past five years I’ve searched the Internet looking for this card and ironically it showed up three weeks ago on eBay. The auction ended just in time for me to give the card to his niece for a birthday present.

To my surprise no one in the family knew that this card ever existed. I cannot help but wonder how many things we let slip away through the passage of time before we had the Internet. Suddenly legends are able to live on a lot longer before slipping away in the history books. This is the kind of stuff that makes me proud to work in the field of information technology.
