PC World has an article out titled, The 50 Greatest Gadgets of the Past 50 Years. Their number one gadget for the past fifty years, The Sony Walkman (1979). I think everybody my age had one, though maybe not the very first ones which were around $200. The items were a must when you were on your way to school or taking a walk. You know, besides the Walkman, it was also the first time I wore portable stereo headphones. Before then, all I had ever used was a single earpiece that plugged into my AM transistor radio.
PC World’s top five gadgets:
- Sony Walkman TPS-L2 (1979)
- Apple iPod (2001)
- (Tie) ReplayTV RTV2001 and TiVo HDR110 (1999)
- PalmPilot 1000 (1996)
- Sony CDP-101 (1982)
Now it’s time to take a look at the other 45 gadgets.
